Questions about yoga and pregnancy

I’ve never done yoga. Can I start now I am pregnant?
Yes, absolutely! Danae’s prenatal classes are designed for both beginners and women with a more advanced practice. No matter your experience, focus on your breath, gentle strength and mobility. Everyone is getting to know their body in their own way, with every pregnancy.

What equipment do I need at home?
A mat, 2 blocks, a strap or scarf, cushions or a bolster, and a chair or wall.
Optional: a 75cm Swiss ball for pelvic mobility and supported sitting. You can use this in labour, so it’s a great idea to have one ready.

From what gestation should I start and finish yoga practices?
Whilst much of the recommendation out there suggests beginning at 12 weeks, you can start whenever you feel comfortable and confident. Many women continue with normal training and exercise through the first trimester. Danae’s yoga is very safe for all stages of pregnancy, so it’s about making the decision that feels right for you. You can continue to practice until you give birth and can even do your yoga practice in early labour.

How often should I practise?
As often as you like. Listen to your body and if something doesn’t feel right, take a break.

Which poses are off-limits?
There is nothing in Danae’s classes that is contraindicated for pregnancy. However, always follow the no-pain rule and modify where needed.

This platform does not include any strong backbends, deep twists, lying on your back, or postures that restrict space for your baby.

Is prenatal yoga safe for me and my baby?
Generally yes, for healthy pregnancies. Major organisations like ACOG and WHO confirm that exercise does not increase the risk of miscarriage, preterm birth, or low birth weight. Always seek advice from your care provider if you are concerned about anything.

What if I feel dizzy, short of breath, or in pain?
Stop immediately and modify your movement. If symptoms persist, contact your midwife or care provider for further guidance.

Can these online yoga classes with Danae really help with stress and sleep?
Yes. Prenatal yoga studies show reductions in anxiety, depression, and perceived stress. Many women also report better quality sleep and improved relaxation.
