Pregnancy yoga: What you need to know before starting.
Yoga during pregnancy offers a beautiful way to prepare your mind and body for the journey ahead — no previous yoga experience required. Through mindful movement, breathing, and relaxation, prenatal yoga helps you connect with your changing body and your baby in a calm, supportive way.
No experience is needed to start prenatal yoga classes
Yoga to Birth prenatal yoga focuses on gentle, modified poses (asanas), breath awareness (pranayama), and relaxation rather than advanced or strenuous flows. Every class is designed to support your body’s natural changes and rhythms throughout pregnancy, so even complete beginners can participate confidently.
This practice builds flexibility, strength, balance, and breath awareness — foundations that benefit all women, regardless of previous yoga or fitness experience. The goal isn’t perfection, but presence and preparation for birth through calm, consistent practice.

Your journey toward a calm and empowered birth
Yoga during pregnancy isn’t just about stretching. It’s a way of training the body and mind for the physical and emotional intensity of birth. Studies show that prenatal yoga can help reduce anxiety, stress, and depression while improving overall wellbeing and body awareness. It’s also been linked to shorter labours, increased birth satisfaction, and a greater likelihood of natural vaginal birth.
By maintaining soft tissue tone and stamina, improving flexibility and posture, and learning effective breath control, you’re giving yourself a set of “tools” you can use throughout pregnancy, labour, and postpartum recovery.
What you need for pregnancy yoga classes (props and space)
You don’t need a yoga studio, special gear, or years of experience to begin. All you need is a quiet space and a few simple props to support your practice:
- Yoga block(s): Provide stability, help you reach poses without strain, and support modified pregnancy-friendly positions.
- 75 cm Swiss ball: Ideal for gentle pelvic mobility exercises, seated poses, and use during labour for comfort and movement.
- Yoga mat or non-slip surface: Ensures comfort and safety.
- Optional extras: Bolster, strap, or blanket for extra support and relaxation, especially in the later months of pregnancy.
Tips before you begin our yoga classes
- Talk with your care provider: Especially if you have any pregnancy complications or health concerns.
- Begin slowly: Focus on breath and gentle movement rather than depth or intensity.
- Listen to your body: Stop if you experience discomfort, dizziness, or fatigue.
